RFA Darkdale 1940 - 1941 Built Blythswood, Glasgow to Shell design. Length: 483 feet. Beam: 59.5 feet. Depth: 34 feet. Deadweight: 11916. Propulsion: diesel. Armaments: 1 x 4.7-inch gun, 1 x 12-pounder gun, 2 x 'Pig Troughs', 2 x Hotchkiss machine guns, 2 x Marlin machine guns, 2 x Lewis machine guns, parachute and cable rockets. Served as escort oiler on Atlantic convoys and fleet oiler at Freetown. Torpedoed & sunk whilst at anchor off St Helena on 22 October 1941 with the loss of 41 lives.
