Entered service in 1988, and has seen service in two wars since she was built, both against Iraq. She was deployed in 1991 for Operation 'Granby' and in 2003 for Operation 'Telic'. In the second Gulf War, Sir Galahad transported humanitarian aid, docking in Umm Qasr on 28 March 2003. On 26 April 2007, it was announced that she was to be sold and she made her last 'voyage' with the RFA on 20 July, sailing from Marchwood to Portsmouth, to be taken out of service. She was formally handed over to her new owners, the Brazilian navy, on 13 November 2007, and was commissioned into the Brazilian navy as Garcia D'Avila on 4 December.
